We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land upon which Dakota501 conducts its business. We pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging. We commit to always ground ourselves in the knowledge that we are living and working on the unceded land of First Nations people.
ETHICS AND SUSTAINABILITY: We have no interest is participating in the fast fashion industry that exploits vulnerable workers offshore, pollutes and generates over 90 million tonnes of textile waste a year. Nothing we do is mass produced- all of our orders are low in quantity and made in legitimate, above-board factories.
We are a small Melbourne business (a team of only four staff members) and we are dedicated to the process of transitioning gradually to the sole use of sustainably sourced or recycled materials. Where we can afford to, we have been producing small clothing capsules locally here in Melbourne. To help us reach our goal of making our impact on the planet as small as possible, show your support by shopping our Made in Melbourne page. More exciting things on the way!
HISTORY: Dakota501, named for its original location at 501 Chapel street, specialised in curating multi-branded Unisex relaxed street fashion for over 40 years. In 2014 we said goodbye to Dakota’s birthplace at 501 Chapel St, and moved to the Prahran end of Chapel street, number 245. After 6 years of trade in this newer location the store closed its doors in March 2020.
Now Dakota501 operates completely online with our own product- unisex, casual streetwear for our existing, loyal customers in Melbourne and to our expanding customer base worldwide.
